The Best Cage and The Best Care

Habitat and Enclosures

The best cage for your hamster means that it meets all of their needs. Some of those include more than one substrate, access to water at all times, the option to burrow and do other natural behaviors whenever they want to, and to feel safe at all times.

The minimum amount of floor space for a hamster cage is 700 square inches. This gives them a lot of room, but of course, feel free to buy or make a bigger cage.

Substrates

A few substrates could include Niteangle Cork Bedding, and sand- hamster or reptile, but with no dyes. A proper cage should include 7 or more inches of bedding which will allow a hamster to burrow comfortably. (Preferably more than 7 inches.)

Food, Nutrition, and Exercise

You should also sprinkle food (a homemade mix, or Sunburst Hamster Gourmet Food mixed with Mouse and Rat Pellets and freeze dried mealworms) and herbs and/or flowers. You can also include a hamster-safe salad. Check out our recipe page to see some! Your cage should also include a wheel that is large enough for your hamster’s size. (I prefer Niteangle’s Super-Silent’s). If you have a very large wheel though, any sized hamster will fit the wheel and will be able to comfortably run.

Enrichment

You should try to crowd your hamsters cage with toys and driftwood to make them feel safe and hidden. Also, you can add rough stones to “naturally file their nails. Make sure to include chews as well so that you’re hamster’s teeth don’t grow into their gums.
