Welcome!

When I first got my hamster Cookie, I got him from PetSmart late in the year of 2021. He lived in a small wired cage way under the bare minimum of floor space (700 square inches). He was very sweet and I loved him very much. I had borrowed books from my school library on hamsters and was introduced to hamsters being nocturnal (they are crepuscular, not nocturnal), hamster balls, wired cages, and other things that are incorrect and dangerous to hamsters. I thought I did my research, and I really tried to, but it was all wrong info. Halfway through the first month of owning Cookie, I noticed he had a bleeding bald patch right above his nose and I looked it up on YouTube. I quickly found Victoria Raechel’s channel. I quickly learned from her videos that most if not all of my information about hamsters was false. Ever since, I created My Chubby Hamster and have been determined to improve my hamster’s care and the care for many hamsters around the world whose owners were in the wrong. I dedicate this blog and website to Cookie in hope that I can make his short life the best it can be. So please, join my journey in hamster care by reading our blogs, trying our recipes, subscribing to our newsletter, or participating in monthly challenges! I hope we can help you give your hamster the best life possible!

We have recently rebranded our name and logo, so we are no longer called The Happy Hammy. Check out our blog for more!
