DIY Hamster Treat Hide Boxes

In honor of celebrating Valentine’s Day, we can make little boxes that hide treats for your hamster! Please be very careful with how much sugar you give your hamster. Treats should also never substitute for a meal or regular amounts of daily nutrition.

First, cut out a rectangle of cardboard that is 5” x 5” from a cardboard box at home.

Second, cut out two identical circles that are a little bit bigger than a quarter. I would recommend you cut one out first and use it to trace the other circle.

Thirdly, place the circles on top of each other and then move the one on top up about half an inch. This is how tall the strip you are about to cut should be. Cut a strip that fits underneath the two circles, but only on the edges to serve as a side of the box, or a wall. *Make sure that the edge is only serving as half a side of the box, not the whole thing. The box should be open on the other side for treats.

Fourth, please glue the side of the box on the circles with Non-Toxic Elmer’s School Glue. We do not want to poison our hamsters, so please only use Non-Toxic Glue.

Lastly, now that you have your box put together, you can put a worm or something inside it for your hamster to try and get it out. If the directions were a bit confusing, our Pinterest page will have a photo of the DIY box soon, so please check that out for more help.
