How To Keep Your Hamster Cool in the Summer Heat

Do you live somewhere like Texas, Florida, California, or anywhere blazing hot for your hamster? Maybe you don’t have access to AC or a fan in your home. If so, this article is for you! Keep reading to find out how to keep your furry friend cool in this crazy summer heat.

One tactic many hamster owners use is getting large slabs of stone or marble for your hamster’s cage. You can also use stone or terracotta hideouts for your hamster to feel more comfortable in. Flat, cool surfaces help cool your hamster in the heat, so this is very useful. You can also put the materials in the fridge or freezer for a short amount of time for extra “coolability”. If you decide to use the freezer, make sure you let it sit in room temperature for a while before you let your hamster lay on it.

Another way to keep your hamster cool is to add an icepack on the side of your hamster’s cage. You can put a fan in the room to circulate the air as well, but don’t keep it focused on the cage for a long period of time.

If you are concerned about your hamster even with AC or a fan in the room, just make sure your thermostat is at the right temperatures for your furry friend (Around 70° Fahrenheit) and everything will be fine. If your hamster is displaying strange behaviors such as panting, shaking/shivering, or anything out of the normal that could be due to a change in temperature or extreme temperature, then definitely take your hamster in to the vet.

With all of this in mind, now you can have fun in the summer without having to worry about your hamster overheating!
